The Tebowing Atheist

Tim Tebow has gotten a lot of praise, criticism, and media attention over his acknowledgement of God's divine sovereignty through his "Tebowing". Even the Atheists are getting in on the act albeit with their own  "we don't believe in God" twist.

"Dave Silverman, 45, has added a clever twist to the fad. He is genuflecting like Tebow does when he prays, but he's also mimicking Rodin's The Thinker. This is a nod to the atheist or humanistic belief that it is man --not a higher power -- who is purely in control of his fate. Silverman is Tebowing to his fellow man." Dave Silverman is the President of the American Atheists.

Silverman goes on to say "The universe has a trillion stars ninety five percent of it is dark matter. It's hubris to think the Creator of all that wants the Broncos to win a football game." So Silverman calls Tebow a "victim" because of the quarterback’s
belief that "he's not doing it -- God is doing it through him." Therefore, according to Silverman, Tebow is "brainwashing himself."

I find it fascinating that an atheist is even willing to use the work creator in discussing the universe.  Putting that aside these people who deny the existence of God do not understand that Tim Tebow believes God created him just as the inspired word of God says in Psalm 139:13-14“For you created my inmost being;  you knit me together in my mother’s  womb. …I am fearfully and wonderfully made you works are wonderful….”  Tebow realizes that God provides our abilities and talents and that acknowledging this pleases God.  Tim Tebow has learned that “The fear (admiration, awe) of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but fools despise wisdom….”  But as the Psalmist says in Psalms 14:1  “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God’”

Happy New Year 'tis the Resolution Season

1/1/2012

The change of the calendar year prompts most to contemplate their past year or so and to resolve to improve the new year.  We like to call these New Year Resolutions.  We also joke that the only Resolution that will not be broken is the one that is not made.
We resolve to lose weight, get out of debt, improve or relationships, and so on, but what about a bigger perspective?

With New Years Day coming on a Sunday this year I was sitting in church thinking about some resolutions that God made.  God resolved to make man in His image.  "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image,...'" (Genesis 1:26)  Because of man's rebellion against God, God resolved to save man from their sins and reconcile mankind to Himself.  "'The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and they will call him Immanuel' -- which means, 'God with us.'" (Matthew 1:23) "...he will save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21b)  God also resolved that all men and women would have the opportunity to be saved.  "This is good, and pleases God our Savior who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." (1Timothy 2:3-4)  How do I know that God will keep his resolutions?  "The Lord Almighty (God) has sworn, 'surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed (resolved) so it will stand.'" (Isaiah 14:24).

Therefore, since God keeps his resolutions and he sent his son into the world to "seek and to save save what was lost" (Luke 19:10b) then shouldn't our primary resolution for 2012 be the same as the Apostle Paul declared to the Corinthians "...I resolved to know nothing except Christ..." (1Corinthians 2:2)

So I will resolve to choose "...the way of truth..." (Psalms 119:30) in 2012 and forever.  And since Jesus said "I am the way, the Truth, and the life." (John 14:6) I will choose Him and his trut
